Why is my microphone and/or audio echoing/looping when I am live streaming?

Accepted Answer

If you are hearing your microphone echoing (it loops over and over) when live streaming to Twitch, YouTube or Facebook, check you do not have your stream open in your browser unmuted.

If you do not mute your stream and it is outputting to the same device selected in System Audio, Gamecaster will "listen" to that and send it back to your stream, and then "listen" to that and send it back to your stream, and so forth, until you've a jumbled mess of words constantly repeating back to you.

1. Log in and connect Gamecaster to the streaming platform of your choice.

When you first load up Gamecaster it will ask you to log in using an account on Twitch, Facebook, or YouTube. Authorize and connect Gamecaster to the platform you plan to stream to. If you're streaming to YouTube, make sure you've enabled live streaming from your account page.

2. Configure and test your audio devices.

Make sure you’re hearing everything right and can be heard yourself. Go to My Account > Settings > Devices and set up your headphones or speakers for your system sounds, and configure your microphone to ensure your levels are correct and tested for optimal volume.

Can’t hear Discord or another audio source in your stream? Some headsets split sound between chat and game, resulting in Discord using your "Chat" channel whilst everything else uses your more robust "Game" channel. Make sure you add both channels to the Gamecaster audio mixer.

3. Prepare your main scenes.

By default you start with an empty scene with a fullscreen Main Source that is designed to capture most games. You can start streaming right away with this minimal setup and focus on your game, or you can edit the scene to add your choice of alerts, chat windows, and dozens of other widgets, or select one of our premade themes to add a custom flair to your stream. How do I connect Gamecaster to Twitch?

Streaming to Twitch is as simple as logging in to your Twitch account, no stream keys necessary!

When you launch Gamecaster for the first time, it will ask you to connect to one of the three main streaming platforms: Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube:

Click on Connect with Twitch to get started. This will open a new window in your web browser where you can grant access to Gamecaster to fetch necessary information from your Twitch account.

There's no need to do anything here except take note of the permissions Gamecaster is using (we promise not to harm your channel!) and then click on Authorize to allow Gamecaster to start streaming to Twitch.

You can double-check to make sure everything is connected on the Twitch side at https://www.twitch.tv/settings/connections:

1. Is Gamecaster free? Will I be charged later on?

Gamecaster is absolutely free and will always be free to use.

2. How about The Vault, do I need to spend money to buy the paid Themes and other assets?

You don't have to spend anything, if you don't want to. You can also earn Gold just by using Gamecaster (for free!) and exploring its features via the Rewards section.

3. What platforms can I stream to with Gamecaster?

Using a stream key via custom RTMP, you can technically stream to any platform your heart desires. However, for the best results & experience we'd recommend using any of the native integrations to easily stream to Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook.

4. Can I record my footage while I'm streaming?

Absolutely! You can stream by itself, record by itself, or do both at the same time, with recording making a copy of your stream saved to your drive.

5. I heard about all the DMCA issues for streamers. Will I get in trouble for using Spotify with Gamecaster?

Most songs on Spotify are covered by laws which prevent the streaming and playing of music you do not own the rights to (yes, even if you're paying for Spotify Premium). To prevent any unwanted claims and ultimately the banhammer, we'd recommend using our Lo-Fi, EDM or Hip Hop playlists containing [150 tracks of copyright-free music](https://gamecaster.com/music) you can use!

Streaming and Recording uses up a lot of system resources. With game capture, camera feeds, animations, web browser sources and a whole host of other goodies, it's important you meet a certain standard to best avoid any unwanted lag.
