Set up your first scene and get streaming!
Welcome to Gamecaster! We can't wait for you to be on your way with your stream or recording, so let's jump right in to Gamecaster's interface to get started. We'll assume you've already installed the program and have logged in to your streaming platform, and are now ready to create your first scene.
The magic happens here in the Set and Scene management area of the interface. If you haven't already, go and create a Set, and you'll end up with a new space to start creating your first scene:
When you click on the + icon, this opens up a dialog that lets you choose between creating your own scene (for more experienced users who have used Gamecaster before), or looking through The Vault for a premade scene built around a complete packaged theme.
If you want to get started right away, we suggest going through The Vault and selecting a theme that catches your eye--most of them are free and require minimal setup (like putting in your social media usernames), which means you can get to streaming right away. Most themes also come with Start/Intermission scenes to help you have a more professional-looking stream. All themes are also completely open to edit in Scene Editor, so you can personalize them to your exact needs!
Of course, if you want to personalize absolutely everything, then creating your own scenes is the way to go. We've tried to make the best and easiest to use Scene Editor so that users of every level can customize their scenes with exactly the images, music, and widgets that they need.
There are two ways to go about this: you can play around and learn about Scene Editor by editing a scene you selected in The Vault, or start totally from scratch. Both are perfectly fine choices! If you decide to create your own scene, below are some suggestions of what to put. All of these widgets are accessible inside Scene Editor by clicking on the Add Widget button on the top.
Ideas to add to your first scene:
Add Widget > General > Text / Image lets you place text and images in your scene. It's the best place to start to add in your personal touch to your stream.
Add Widget > Sources > Camera Source lets you place a window that displays your webcam. Let your audience see who they're interacting with!
Add Widget > Alerts > Follower / Subscriber are two of the common events in most streams. Make sure an alert plays so you know whom to thank in your audience! Once you've selected an alert and it appears on the left side of Scene Editor:
Options open up on the right side that let you select how the alert works, including letting you add animations, audio, and even text-to-speech in a variety of accents, just like you see on your favorite streams.:
If you're a bit more advanced and would like to import plugins or services like custom alerts, gamepad displays, or anything else that uses a browser source URL, Add Widget > General > Web Page (Improved) is the way to go.
Once you're done, be sure to Save and then Test your scene to make sure everything looks and behaves like you want it to.
And you're ready to go! Do the final checks and tests on your scene, make sure your camera and mic are capturing your awesome face and voice, and click the Stream button to start on your streaming journey. We can't wait to see what you've created!
